My name is Leighton Reid, and I am a postdoctoral researcher at Oregon State University. My research focuses on forest restoration in Costa Rica and in the Pacific Northwest. You can read more about that on my website.
I started this blog as a graduate student at the University of California Santa Cruz. Cave Gulch is a redwood canyon between the university and the house that I lived in while I finished my dissertation. Walking through the gulch twice per day reminded me to pay attention to slugs, trilliums, salamanders, and (signs of) mountain lions.
I started Cave Gulch Review as a way of organizing and sharing observations and miscellaneous ideas that occurred to me on my walks through the gulch. Now that I’ve moved on from Santa Cruz, the blog might better be called “Jackson Frazier Wetland Review” or some such thing, but it doesn’t roll off the tongue as well. This blog is primarily about natural history and ecological research.
